Lt Col James Spieth
Graduated from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Ks., with BS in Education 1967. Commissioned 2Lt. in US Army upon graduation, Branched Air Defense Artillery. Served 11 years on activity duty with duty stations in Fort Bliss; Texas, Chicago, Ill; South Vietnam; Federal Republic of Germany and North Dakota and at the University of Dayton.
Assignments included, Air Defense unit commander, logistic, intelligence, civil affairs, Safeguard ABM Staff Officer and Senior ROTC instructor. Left activity duty June 30, 1976. Military schools completed while on active duty included: Air Defense Officer Basic Course, Air Defense Officer Advanced Course, Electronic Warfare Course, NBC Target Analyst (Pre-Fix V), Safeguard Staff Officer Course, NBC Defense Course, Logistics Officer Advanced course and Medical Officer Advanced Course. Departed active duty as a Major. Upon departure from activity entered Army Ready Reserve Program and served in the reserve for 17 years, retiring as a Lt. Col. Assignments included EO Officer for Ohio National Guard, Executive Officer for Medical Ground/Air Ambulance/Clearing Battalion, Assistant IG for 32 Army Reserved Command, Columbus, Oh, three staff assignments at Air Defense School, Fort Bliss Texas, severed as Logistics Management Officer at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. And Fort McClellan, Al.
Awards earned include, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Upon departure from active duty was employed in insurance sales and sales management for nine years, earning the prestigious honor of the Million Dollar Round Table. In 1985 moved to SW Florida and made a career change to direct mail marketing. Worked in that industry for 7 years as a National List Broker. In 1993 became a public school teacher and retired from teaching in June 2009. Twice recognized as Outstanding Teacher of the Year. Earned Master’s Degree in Education (Distance Learning) from Florida Gulf Coast University, 2000.
Joined, Civil Air Patrol, November 1990. Assignments include command of a cadet squadron for 2 years, command of a cadet schools squadron for 5 years, commanded Group 8, Florida Wing for two years, earning Outstanding Group Award; served on group and wing staff in logistics and information technology. Currently assigned as Chief of Staff for Logistics, A-4.
Awards received include Meritorious Service Award, Civic Service Award, 20 Year Membership, Recruiting for 90 plus members.
Qualifications earned include Mission Scanner, Basic Ground Team, Senior Ground Team, Ground Team Leader, UDF Team, Communication Advanced to include Mission Radio Operator, Yeager Award, Paul E Garber Award, Rob Wilson award. Technician rating in Cadet Programs, Senior rating in Information Technology, Masters Rating in Logistics, Senior rating in Command. In addition, he has participated in five Florida Wing encampments.
CAP schools completed include: Squadron Leadership School, Corporate Learning Course, Radiological Monitoring Course, and Hurricane Recon School. Air Ground Operations School and several others.
