Chief of Staff


Lieutenant Colonel Lazaro "Laz" Garcia is the Chief of Staff, Florida Wing, Civil Air Patrol. As such, he serves as a member of the Florida Wing Staff assisting the Wing Commander with the execution of the Florida Wing missions. His main duties include managing and supporting all subordinate Directorates, maintain regular contact with all wing staff to identify areas of concern, and assist in the planning of wing-wide events.
Prior to his selection as Chief of Staff, Lieutenant Colonel Garcia served as Aide-de-Camp to the CAP National Commander from May 2006 to August 2018 and as a former Squadron Commander of FL 464 and FL 259. Lieutenant Colonel Garcia also served as Emergency Services Training Officer and Disaster Relief Officer of the Southeast Region, and Group 7 Director of Communications/Professional Development and Logistics.
Lieutenant Colonel Garcia is a graduate of the Pacific Region Staff College, TLC, UCC, SLS and CLC and has either led or assisted in teaching many CAP Senior Members in these classes. Cadet Programs oriented, he has attended several CP activates as either an instructor or as an assistant and has been an active part of the ES community for over 25 years as a member of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) working in Disaster Management. Lieutenant Colonel Garcia holds a Master rating in Cadet Programs and Technical ratings in Aerospace, Communications, IT and Command.
