Who May Apply: ALL QUALIFIED APPLICANTS who are current active Florida Wing Members of the Civil Air Patrol or eligible to become Florida Wing Members of the Civil Air Patrol in the ranks of Captain and above. Members must reside in or near the State of Florida. Members must be a CAP Qualified Glider Pilot and Glider Orientation Ride Pilot (not required to be current).

 

Duties and Requirements of the Glider Operations Officer shall include but not be limited to the following:

 

  1. Must be currently enrolled in the Operations specialty track.
  2. Assists the Cadet Orientation Flight Officer and Director of Current Operations in managing and directing all Glider Operations and related missions and activities.
  3. Supports the program managers at the Group level and supports the execution of this mission at the Squadron level.
  4. Shall perform mission management duties as follows:
    • Work with the FLWG AMO to ensure the glider aircraft are properly maintained in accordance with CAPR66-1 and FLWG Supplements
    • Work with the FLWG DOV to maintain a core of qualified Glider pilots in the Wing including Cadet O-ride Glider pilots, CAP Tow pilots, CAP Glider pilot instructors and CAP glider pilot check-pilots
    • Coordinate with Cadet encampment activity leaders and other similar activities to provide glider operation support for Cadet glider O-rides and/or pilot training for Cadets in gliders
    • Maintain and distribute the current OI, directives, pamphlets and forms for Groups and Squadrons to apply for Glider Orientation Rides
    • Maintain and distribute the current OI, directives, pamphlets and forms for Groups and Squadrons to apply for Senior Member Glider pilot training and F5G check-rides
    • Coordinate with the NOC and SELR ADO to approve missions for execution
    • Advise Group/Squadron when missions are ready for execution ("green”) in WMIRS
    • Manage funding for Glider operational missions
    • Ensure WMIRS missions are closed at the end of the sortie(s) execution; all necessary data is uploaded to WMIRS sortie(s) and files/documentation required are uploaded; and that the NOC is notified of any unused funds
    • Track and report mission successes and failures on a quarterly basis throughout the
    • Fiscal Year
  5. Shall develop procedures and distribute forms required to authorize use of gliders and tow planes that are not CAP assets. Includes researching and making recommendation for or against pursuing a professional relationship with such entities to service our Glider Missions.
  6. Shall develop annual budget requests for Glider Operations.
  7. Shall develop written best practices procedures for publication as a pamphlet for the Wing website.
  8. Must be familiar with CAPR 70-1, CAPR66-1, CAPP52-7, CAPP 211, FAA regulations and other applicable publications.

 

Ideal Candidate’s Core Competencies (Recommended Qualifications):

  1. Hold the CAP grade of Captain or above
  2. Achieved Level III of the Senior Member Professional Development Program
  3. Hold a TECHNICIAN rating in the Operations Specialty Track (SENIOR rating is preferred)
  4. Squadron Leadership School (SLS) graduate
  5. Prior Operations experience at the group and squadron levels
  6. Prior Operational experience as a FAC, FRO, and/or AOBD
  7. Knowledge and experienced with glider aircraft
  8. Demonstrated leadership and management abilities
  9. Excellent supervisory, organizational, communication skills
  10. Computer skills including a working knowledge of spreadsheets/workbooks
  11. Working knowledge of annual operations budgets
  12. Working knowledge of concepts of operations (CONOPs), operations plans (OPLANs), Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs)
  13. Working knowledge of WMIRS
  14. Experience working with CAP Cadets

Selection criteria are based on Civil Air Patrol training, experience, as well as civilian education and experience related to the position.
