Unit:                                                HQ, Florida Wing, Civil Air Patrol (FL-001)



 Who May Apply: ALL QUALIFIED APPLICANTS who are current active Florida Wing Members of the Civil Air Patrol and/or those eligible to become a Florida Wing Member of the Civil Air Patrol in the ranks of promotable Lieutenant and above.

1. Be currently enrolled in the one of the following specialty tracks: Historian 223

2. Must be available to attend, briefings, seminars, and job specific training courses varying in length and location.

3. Must be willing to support the responsibilities of Historian

4. Must be able to meet the high integrity standards of this position.

5. Must be willing to provide training to subordinate historians and assistance to other members.


Ideal Candidate’s Core Competencies (Recommended Qualifications):

1. Achieved Level II of the Senior Member Professional Development Program with a Technician rating in one of the specialty tracks listed.

2. Experience with project management helpful.

3. Working knowledge of eServices.

4. Working knowledge of the various CAP Programs and missions.

5. Effective and efficient oral and written communication skills.

6. Thorough knowledge of the applicable CAPRs, CAPP, and CAPM.

7. Possess experience and qualifications as a Historian whether in CAP or outside of CAP



1. Manages and directs historical activities to include:

2. Develop policies and procedures that relate to historical activities.

3. Establish and conduct a program for the publishing of general and special histories, monographs, studies, and similar works for issue both internally and externally to CAP.

4. Establish and conduct a program to specifically inform the general public as to the history of CAP as it relates to CAP’s current missions.

5. Issue bibliographies, catalogs, indices, and abstracts containing information relative to publications relating to CAP history.

6. Establish and conduct a program of the collection and preservation of items of historical significance either of a documentary or physical property nature.

7. Establish and conduct an oral history program.

8. Represent the Civil Air Patrol at meetings of historical and other learned societies.

9. The Historian should be thoroughly familiar with CAPR 210-1 (the Civil Air Patrol Historical Program) and other internal and external publications relating to historical activities
